There is an argument that in the case of the attempted Trump assassination, the Secret Service snipers saw a gun but refused to fire. I don’t think they ever saw a gun. They just saw some dude lying on a roof.
You don’t get to shoot a guy without a weapon no matter how suspicious he looks. And they did go up to check it out. A cop went up there to check him out and he turned and pulled an automatic weapon on the cop.
The cop probably had his gun holstered. You have a holstered gun, and a maniac pulls an automatic weapon on you? You retreat. First, a sidearm is no match for an automatic weapon, and second, in a situation like that, you reach for your gun and you’re gone.
I assume that proper standard operating procedure was followed here. Was SOP deficient in this case? Possibly. Then it needs to be modified for the future. I don’t think the Secret Service screwed up here and heads need to roll. This is one of the idiocies of our insane society.
