Our nuclear posture keeps getting more and more insane. Really the only time it’s ok to use a nuclear weapon is if an enemy army is threatening to or is on the verge of conquering your country. It’s a last ditch effort to save the state.
But the US nuclear weapons doctrine continues its insane mission creep. For a long time, both the US and the USSR had a “no first use” policy about nuclear weapons, or “no first use unless the government is threatened by an enemy. I assume this continued over to Russia.
The US and Russia had been making excellent progress reducing their nuclear stockpiles and positioning their missiles some distance away from each other.
That all changed. I forget who changed it. I think it was when the (((neocons))) came into power George W. Bush. At any rate, Clinton and even Obama (!) continued it.
