Learned Something New about Cats Today
I’ve haven’t really been hearing cats yowl much in my life. I always lived in the suburbs where everyone fixed their pets and in the mountains where the houses were far apart and the cats never wandered far.
Now I’m in an apartment and there are stray cats all around, but their troop varies. Some will be around for a while and then most of them will leave. One got pregnant recently.
I saw a cat lying on the ground and it had kittens right next to it. She looked over her shoulder at me. I asked my mother and she said she was probably nursing.
People were feeding them. I was but I quit when their numbers increased. Then I gave them water in the summer. Their numbers kept growing and they kept having babies. New ones turned up out of nowhere. At one point there were eight or nine and I started thinking,
Boy this sure is stupid.
Some have kinky or stubbed tails and other signs of inbreeding. Most were too shy to let you tough them but I brought one in for the night and she stayed with me …
