I have to admit something. I absolutely despise conservatives, especially the Republican type we have in our country. I don’t like them much anywhere on Earth. I’m to the point where I don’t even want to talk to them anymore. I’m not sure if I care if I never speak to another conservative again. I assure you that almost everyone I grew up with is some sort of a conservative. They already were in high school and at university.
Most of my friends from those days were conservatives. I just never talked politics much to any of them or I ignored it. Almost all of them were drug users too, usually cannabis and cocaine, and quite a few of them sold those drugs. I’m almost certain that none of them have changed. They must all have gone MAGA by now. I can’t imagine why any of them would move to the Left.
At this point the entire Republican Party has gone fascist, and the never-Trumpers are no good either. For instance they all would have supported that Big Beautiful Bill. That was their dream legislation for the last 45 years finally come true. I don’t even regard any Republicans as respectable opposition.
The Centrist notion that we need to have a reasonable Republican opposition (presumably to keep the Democrats from going insane) is nonsense. We don’t need this current breed of Republicans at all. Even the East Coast liberal Rockefeller Republicans were never any good. They voted against education and labor every chance they got. Someone needs to tell me why I need an opposition party like that.
I don’t mind having conservative readers but keep in mind that you are in enemy territory and the person writing this blog is your enemy. And I’m going to make a new rule that you cannot support the Republican Party or conservatism in general, especially rightwing economics, although moderate social conservatism is fine as that’s what we are - socially conservative liberals and Leftists. But we are not as socially conservative as the Republicans. We are halfway between them and the Cultural Left freakshow.
Your core is purely liberal. You're an old school liberal though, so you're still grounded in reality.
Hi Mr Lindsay, I remember your blog from a long time ago, good to see you're still being you!
Of the current crop of American politicians, national or not, which do you feel echoes your values the closest?
