Due for a repost. To sum up, America has a “firing culture.” If you look at other societies, for instance Europe, that’s just not the case. A lot of employers over there only want to fire someone as an absolute last resort instead of an immediate reflex.

In much of Europe, it is not even easy to fire an employee. If this can be done properly, I agree with it. Clearly some employees have to go. But America fires far too many workers. Europeans are appalled at the reasons for firing in the US and how easy it is to get fired over here.

In America, Fate and Luck Do Not Exist

Here in the US, we act like there is no such thing as raw luck. This is almost Calvinist in outlook and is a complete contradiction to the fatalism in much of the world, especially the Hispanophone, Arab, Muslim, and Hindu world. In Spanish, you say, “Ojala que?”

It’s an Arabic borrowing that means, “Leave it up to Allah” and is the basis behind the fatalism of Islamic culture. In Spanish, it boils down to, “God willing …
